Spring Break for the Cavekids started off with battle cries and war whoops at 7:20am when the boys fired up the Wii for some serious Super Smash Brothers Brawling. Clearly they didn't get the memo that Spring Break means you should take advantage of not having to get up for school, choir, band or Student Council by sleeping in (or at least allowing Mom to sleep in).
Really, is being able to sleep until 8am too much to ask?
The war whoops were followed by complaints from the living room of unsportsman-like conduct and a very loud and rather plaintive "Ewww! Mom, Logan's being gross!"
Then gross Logan came back and flopped on me and yanked the pillow from under my head to use for himself and pinched my nostrils shut just to laugh when my eyes flew open. Then he managed to elbow my ribs and frog my calf muscle as he twisted to flip on the radio before turning up the volume to nearly full blast because he apparently really likes the Neon Trees song "Everybody Talks".
FYI, it doesn't start with a whisper. It starts with a 6 year old belting out "It started with a whisper…and that was when I kissed her…"
Yep, I'm up.
With it being the start of Spring Break and all, I thought the day called for something little more special than our usual weekday omelets or smoothies, so I turned to this German Apple Pancake recipe we'd been waiting to try.
In between hungry kids bouncing off the walls and dogs prancing underfoot and friends being dropped off for playdates and Chris happily escaping for work to avoid the chaos, I did manage to snap one picture before the munchkins descended like locusts to devour it.
I'd only made one pancake…I should have doubled the recipe, because all the kids loved it (even our fairly picky guests)!
With breakfast over, we're off to dig up worms and play frisbee and hum on our kazoos loud enough to have the grumpy neighbor lady give us a dirty look.
