This upcoming week is going to be quite a busy one for us.
Today we're gathering with Chris' family for a backyard barbecue. My brother (and fellow caveman!) and his friend are coming over Monday for a little belated-birthday-and-Memorial Day-celebration. Tuesday Chris leaves for Chicago for work, and Thursday we'll be driving up to spend a long weekend with him in the Windy City as a mini-vacation.
Family get-togethers have always been a study in both family and food. In the past they have always been good excuses to prepare special treats and enjoy goodies we wouldn't normally have- to overeat and over-indulge.
Luckily, With me being the chief food-supplier for both events this weekend, I have a lot of control over what we'll be having! Mother's Day this year was fairly succesful- I managed to sneak primarily paleo foods in to keep us on track, and I hope to do so again this weekend.
While staying paleo/primal while close to home is fairly easy, I fear it may become a difficulty while on the road and out of the house. We manged to score a great deal on a hotel suite with a full kitchen and a grocery nearby, and we've planned out meals and snacks to take along and to prepare while we are there, but we still will be eating out on a couple occaisions.
My (very personal) challenge for this next week is going to keep not only myself but Chris and the boys on track and choosing the 'right' foods in situations where we normally would have used the excuse to eat anything in 'celebration' mode.
