After a conversation with my friend Mark the other day, I knew exactly what this week's challenge was going to be.
Mark has been following his diet diligently, with good results (yay, Mark!). After his breakfast that morning, although it was less than he would have eaten in his pre-diet days, he was uncomfortably full and felt like he'd eaten way too much.
I can empathize.
Even though I've made great progress in the recent past, I still struggle regularly with the desire/need to overeat. My gauge for when I am finished eating is very often not that my appetite is satiated, but that my plate is clean or the bowl is empty. Too often I find myself stopping to get a snack because it sounds good rather than really needing to fill my stomach. This leads- too often- to overeating without really being aware of it.
My challenge this next week for myself (andfor anyone else that wants to follow along!) is to really pay attention to body cues. To eat only when hungry, and to stop eating when satisfied (regardless of how much food is left on the plate).
This is one of my biggest problem areas, so hopefully I can keep it in the forefront of my mind and correct these bad habits!
